I remember the time I came up on a sow and her two young while heading back to camp with a dead pig over my shoulders. My buddy had fallen behind and had my rifle. I dropped the carcass and assumed the position.
Those pigs can get real mean, but all that aside I was looking forward to a little one one action with her (in a manly combative way, not the other) when she took off. She stared me down until her young were around the bend, then she took off.
I kept thinking to myself, how should I battle this beast should it attack, head on? Leap heroically over it? Maybe a cool summersault while bashing it with a stick picked up during our mad headlong rush? Run for cover? Of course it was only a javalina...
