i agree with allan for everything. and anyone else that agrees with us. i have guns and kids my boy helps me clean mine and i am a FIRM believer that all guns to kids should be taught there ALWAYS loaded. only like 4 of mine are all the others are not but for some reason a lot of people die being shot with unloaded guns.

this is my idea with kids

this is my idea.... teach a kid that guns are not toys and they shouldnt be touched and they are ALWAYS loaded evan though they may not be. take a kid show them what they can do. NOT A PAPER TARGET watermelon, FULL soda cans, or something that is more represenative of what it can do. its makes a statement when you have a melon almost EXPLODE.

    GO ALLAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and who ever else agrees with us...

Let me caveat onto that Carl,

In Katrina I saw an Officer clear his side arm improperly. I only know it was improper because he sent a round into the clearing barrel. The second he did that he made the statement by his actions that he thought his weapon was unchambered.

While in Iraq, with a company of about three hundred or so, we had three negligent discharges. Each time a round is fired during the clearing process is because that Soldier was under the impression that they didn't have a round in the tube.

Not trying to preach, lack the credentials to do so, but no I wouldn't advise anyone to own a fire arm. I think it's a decision that each makes on their own. Some to hunt, some for protection, some because they think it's cool to own one.

From the three, the last one scares me. Well, not the blood-draining-wet-my-pants kind of scare... more like the quiet man-scare that causes a mild flinch... but in a dirty harry kind of way...

    my .o2....
first of all if you want a gun for "protection" it cant be locked up or have safety cables etc..
by the time someone brakes into your home its to late especially if your asleep. there's no way your gonna unlock, get out of a safe and load it before they get to you. that is if turning on a light dosent scare them away to begin with. if your looking for that kinda protection get a dog and some burgler alarm signs in the yard... theyll be more effective.
i have over 30 guns and my wife and i both sleep with one at the head of our bed in a slot in front of our pillow we lock them up every morning and pull them out every night
when we get home. maybe its from living in LA for most of our lives i dunno. we both have CC licenses and take them on trips with us and even on the boat when we go out deep sea fishing.the thing is respect for what they can do.
having a bad temper might be the reason your wife dosent want you to have one in the first place. my other issues is that if your wife goes right to the D-word off the bat you might have other issues in the relationship. i would seriously sit down and talk to her about why she dosent want one in the house and why she jumps the gun so to speak... sorry had to..
if it were me and i wanted a ... new boat, gun, anything i talk it over with my wife and
let her know how i will be paying for it and what precautions ill be taking with it no matter what it is. then i would go get it... if you have children in the house and something happens and they get hurt with a gun.... you do not collect 200.00, you do not pass go... you go directly to jail!! even if the gun is locked up and the child under 16 hurts themselves and it dosent have to be fatal. you go to jail for child endangerment.if you want to go shoot a gun go to a range and rent one . do your shooting and come home. once your wife sees that
your going to get your gun fix anyway.. she may even start to go with you.
you get to enjoy the shooting range and you dont have to bring it home +,+
after awhile she may end up buying you one... take it slow and know all the precautions.
and if you have children take them shooting with you let them shoot and teach them to shoot so they will have a respect for the gun and what it can cause.

    again just my .02

LOL.....People really take gun ownership seriously. Sometimes, reasoning for owning so many guns goes to the extreme. I agree (saying it in a different way though) that hunting in this area of the country probably isn't as "dangerous" as other areas that maybe has Bears etc.

But Danny, probably going to be a losing battle debating guns bro.

I wanted a gun to start hunting etc. My wife turns around and bought one a .270 scope and all i was like really. Next one she is letting me get is a ar-15 and .40 pistol, after the shotgun. man i love my wife. I took her shooting and she did better than me. Kinda scared me at first. The .270 is kept in my closet no lock unloaded and bolt out. i don't have to worry about a safe yet. as for trusting my child, she knows not to go in our room let alone closet. She knows thier are tougher things than a rifle. and thats her daddy. however i can threaten her with not going to school if she is bad and she behaves lol.

I remember the time I came up on a sow and her two young while heading back to camp with a dead pig over my shoulders. My buddy had fallen behind and had my rifle. I dropped the carcass and assumed the position.

Those pigs can get real mean, but all that aside I was looking forward to a little one one action with her (in a manly combative way, not the other) when she took off. She stared me down until her young were around the bend, then she took off.

I kept thinking to myself, how should I battle this beast should it attack, head on? Leap heroically over it? Maybe a cool summersault while bashing it with a stick picked up during our mad headlong rush? Run for cover? Of course it was only a javalina...

LOL...that's funny. Maybe a hand grenade would have been more appropriate than the Rambo attack...
