You guys are getting too wrapped up over the divorce thing, maybe I worded it wrong but it was more in joking. The main reason why she doesn't want a gun in the house is because of the kiddo but guess what?

But Danny, probably going to be a losing battle debating guns bro.
What are you talking about? I'm not debating gun ownership at all. I own firearms and don't care who else does. I'm not sure where you are coming from.

You guys are to funny. I just read this entire post and just laughed my way through it.

I own 2 handguns, a kimber 1911, and a XD 45. I have a 30-06 and a .22. I usually carry my XD where ever I go since I have a CC license. My Wife hates guns, will never hold a gun let alone shoot one with me at the range. I went to sleep before she got home the other day when she was driving back from San Antonio. Before I went to sleep she told me she would be getting in around 2am and not to shoot her as I keep one locked and load in my night stand. Lucky for me I'm a cop in the Air Force and handle guns everyday, plus I had all my guns before we got married :-)

I have an XD40 as well. Stays locked up in my safe though. I owned the gun for about a year, almost a year and a half before I got to fire it on my in-laws ranch.

I thought about getting a CC license, and even heard a stirring lecture about the wolves and sheeps (analogy referencing those who do and those who aren't prepared for hostilities). But I've never been in a situation where a weapon was required... aside from one knife fight (I was unarmed, assailant pulled knife, buddy clocked him with a tire iron) and another altercation where the kid wanted to use a metal bar (weak, never stood a chance with the bar or without). I've never been in a sitiuation where a gun was required.

Well, almost... a girlfriend's father had a rifle in his lap when he explained how I should carry myself around his daughter.

The only time I have actively carried a weapon wasn't on our own soil... somewhere else protecting the Air Force folks from the baddies...

I have never needed to pull mine in this small town I live in. However I like knowing I have the option if I need too.

Thanks for the good laugh on this one and your just about 99% right. However In the Security Forces and the EOD "MOS" we go "outside" just as much as you guys do. And with my job, explosive detection dog handler, I protect the "Joe's" from IED's and "booby trapped" houses before they kick down the door and before they run around tearing the place up after they kicked it down. So we help each other out from the baddies....

The shot gun in lap when it comes to any boyfriend my daughter brings home is going to be me not my husband. He'll have the deer rifle too much kick for me always get a bruise from it.

Only problem is the bad guys don't send you a letter in advance telling you when and where they will be attacking and they don't tell you what weapons they will be bringing either. You can either go through life thinking/hoping it will never happen to you (always happens to someone else) or you can be somewhat prepared in advance in case something does happen. Yeah, odds are if you have a CHL you will probably never have to draw your weapon on someone, but it can still save your life (and family/friends) to be prepared and practice. Even if the odds were 1 in 100,000, who or what says you won't be that "1"?

LOL, yeah I know. We each have their own roles to fill and together we get the job sort of done. Never had to kick any doors down myself, but I did quite a few convoys. First one in theater and we had an IED blow as we drove past. Fortunately for us they had rigged it wrong and the force was sent up rather than out at us. Still woke us up pretty quick!

I used to train AF up at Sheppard from 2003-2005. In fact sometime when we have the time to drink a beer or two I will tell you the story about how the Air Force saved my career.

I know, and you're right. Not that I'm very luckey but I feel the odds are stacked in my favor as not ever needing one. If it ever happens to me I can only hope that it doesn't involve my family.
