my .o2....
first of all if you want a gun for "protection" it cant be locked up or have safety cables etc..
by the time someone brakes into your home its to late especially if your asleep. there's no way your gonna unlock, get out of a safe and load it before they get to you. that is if turning on a light dosent scare them away to begin with. if your looking for that kinda protection get a dog and some burgler alarm signs in the yard... theyll be more effective.
i have over 30 guns and my wife and i both sleep with one at the head of our bed in a slot in front of our pillow we lock them up every morning and pull them out every night
when we get home. maybe its from living in LA for most of our lives i dunno. we both have CC licenses and take them on trips with us and even on the boat when we go out deep sea fishing.the thing is respect for what they can do.
having a bad temper might be the reason your wife dosent want you to have one in the first place. my other issues is that if your wife goes right to the D-word off the bat you might have other issues in the relationship. i would seriously sit down and talk to her about why she dosent want one in the house and why she jumps the gun so to speak... sorry had to..
if it were me and i wanted a ... new boat, gun, anything i talk it over with my wife and
let her know how i will be paying for it and what precautions ill be taking with it no matter what it is. then i would go get it... if you have children in the house and something happens and they get hurt with a gun.... you do not collect 200.00, you do not pass go... you go directly to jail!! even if the gun is locked up and the child under 16 hurts themselves and it dosent have to be fatal. you go to jail for child endangerment.if you want to go shoot a gun go to a range and rent one . do your shooting and come home. once your wife sees that
your going to get your gun fix anyway.. she may even start to go with you.
you get to enjoy the shooting range and you dont have to bring it home +,+
after awhile she may end up buying you one... take it slow and know all the precautions.
and if you have children take them shooting with you let them shoot and teach them to shoot so they will have a respect for the gun and what it can cause.
again just my .02
