Or you can be like me and just dont think about asking for a deal I like it I buy it.

I usually ask if they give a MAAST discount (shopping at sponsor stores). Is that considered asking for a deal? The MAAST discount is a nice bonus and usually covers the tax. It just makes me feel *special*and IMO lets the MAAST sponsors know I'm coming to their store because they're a MAAST sponsor.
Not something that will make the difference between being able to afford it or not being able to afford it. The stuff I like is usually under 100 bucks anyway.
PS: I want to go LFS shopping with Sherry some time just to experience the no limits rush of coral shopping. LOL!

Sherri musta been calm and in control on Black Friday at Gabes, then... Cuz I don't remember the coral tanks turning into loose slots in Vegas
I'd like to clarify my prior statement as well -- I have no problem with the haggle, it can be part of the fun. As Karin pointed out tho, the rudeness from either direction is where it falls apart.. Not being witness to the conversation and the mannerisms contained within, however, makes that hard to judge.

Oh I lied when I said I don't ask for deals other than MAAST discounts. I just remembered that I did just inquire about a deal on Vortechs and it was an awesome deal too (saved over $100) - I was very happy. The website said to call them for best price though, so I ask for deals if the seller wants me to.![]()

Sure, ask for a deal, it can't hurt. But if the sales person doesn't know you or remember you, don't take it so personal.
Sales people have bad days too. And they're the bottom of the food chain in some businesses, even if they're all you see. Whether or not a deal is given can be based on how good the business is doing that day, the relationship that particular sales person has with the higher ups, or simply the person's (or the boss' !) mood.
If asked the one thing that I truly appreciate it would be customer service. Although I like the response she gave (I'm a bit of a wise pass myself), I wouldn't care for it in a business setting that is customer oriented.
I don't haggle, I've tried, but I can't seem to pull it off... even in Mexico. I tried to buy some nerf bars for my truck, fella wanted 70 dollars. I tried bringing him down to fifty, he said 70, I tried 60, he said 70... which in spanish sounds remarkably similar. I even made a big show of driving off, stopping one last time in front of the guy to ask if 65 would suffice... he said 70. I parked and bought the bars for 70.
To tell the truth I don't even ask for the MAAST discount here in town.

Actually, I did sell my boat for $2,500. The lady tried to haggle with me for a $2,000 price (did I mention I hate haggling?). So I went ahead and told her I would sell her the boat for $2,000. Then I asked her if she knew anyone who would like a boat trailer for $500.
