Oh no! I had a magnetic probe holder do the same in my tank a couple of months ago. Everything seemed to do ok though.

Have you ruled out pests? Whenever I see an established SPS tank start going downhill for no reason, I can almost always point to pests.
Now if there have been some alk swings or general changes in the system, then there could be other reasons.
Those alk fluctuations may be a big part of it for sure and usually they'll show a response well after the event that caused it.
I would agree. I tend to get Alk burns when I put too much GFO at times. If you can get the AlK stable, start looking for pests.

here is the drop and I've managed to keep it 7.2 to 7.56 the rest of the time since. And now when I did a big w/c it jumped to 8 so I'm going to try and stay at 8 from now on because Redsea salt has a alk of 8. As you can see I've been pretty proactive of checking alk after the drop and I'll continue until I can hit it right at at and stay there.
