Lets talk filters!!!

Okay so at my business the ice machine filters needed replacing.... When i first step foot in here i thought they were some "special" filters... This hobby has taught me alot of things, and one is about filters and RO units.....

The unit is from a local place (travis water) or something like that but can be found at nearby mission restaurant supply or ace mart. The sediment filters are not too overly priced but the second filter is about $70 or more..... I havent replaced it in awhile but it was time so i brought a sediment and carbon block from my RO unit at home....

The sediment fit perfectly but when i opened the 2nd canister, i realized it was a completely different filter... Looked almost like a di canister, except this one wasnt intended to be reusable.....

Any idea what this is? A friend said it had a phosphate remover, cant recall what he said without going back into our texts....

So i looked at missions website to see what it was and its like this one but the 10"

Are these worth the price? Or is a carbon block sufficient?

Is this filter that is offered at ace mart similar to what we use?

Would be neat to just buy a canister and be able to refill it like di resin... Or if the carbon blocks is sufficient enough for a ice machine.....

Or if the $70 filter or its media is worth adding to our home RO unit to maybe get more out of our filters.... They say to replace once a year, at 600/day... The filter would be worth its price at home.....

What you have there is an anti-scalent filter - it isn't intended to remove chlorine. That is the job of carbon. For an ice machine - it is advantageous to leave the chlorine (a disinfectant) in the water.

Really no advantage to adding to you're home system...
