Default My Royal Gramma is a soldier

Last night I was watching a hockey game, my cat sitting on my lap and then I see her jump up and look towards the tank over the couch arm. She climbed over and laid there. This is pretty normal as she always has to know what my other cat is doing, so I assumed she was just waiting to pounce on her. I thought nothing of it. About 20-30 minutes later I got up and walked by the tank, and what I first thought was a roach on the floor, turned out to be my royal gramma. Aha, that's what my cat saw. I noticed her sitting there staring at him, I'm surprised she didn't 'play' with him like she does with bugs. I quickly grabbed him, he squirmed a little, and dropped him back into the tank. He quickly sank, upside down and laid motionless, no gill movement, nothing. A big sigh and a 'bummer', I reluctantly walked away and wanted to give him a chance to catch his breath. He moved around a little trying to breath, but swimming erratically, he's a goner. I still gave him some time and a chance to recover. I checked a little later and he appeared to have drifted in the current under the ledge of the rock by where he sank. Right before I went to bed, I went to fish him out but much to my surprise, he darted away and seemed to be healthy, just hiding as RGs tend to do. It's too early to tell, because that is the last I have seen of him (I'm at work), but I think he may have pulled through. I'm hoping he's hanging in there and recovered by the time I get home. I definitely didn't expect that though, glad I didn't fish him right out when I saw him sink, he really wouldn't have had a chance.

IDK if they are more prone to jumping, this is a first for him, I've had it for a while. I did add some chromis and anthias in the last two weeks, and he has been aggressively territorial towards them, so I presume that came into play one way or another.

You should certainly sell me your anthias then! Lol! Jk.

That same thing happened with my flame fish.

Royal grammas are not really known to be jumpers, but they can be extremely territorial, might want to consider getting something to make sure it does not happen again, hope the little guy makes it though!

It's funny, because he wasn't territorial until I removed my flame angel and kole tang. Then add these 'little' 'new' fish and he thinks hes the boss. We'll see how this turns out though, I don't see him today. He could be hiding though, they do that well. It's a rimless tank, so little I can do to prevent them from surfing if they want to. I just try to choose my fish carefully. What I'm confused about is, if he was aggressive towards the other fish...why did he jump? Maybe he missed on a great white-esque breach.
