Doppelgänger reefs!

One thing I have wanted to bring up is the inevitable trend of the doppelgänger reef that we seem to have reached in the maast community. Our planets reef has a seemingly endless source of living creatures. Fish, coral, inverts, the list is endless. We have a limited number of maast folks that reach out into other forums or online vendors to get items that are out of the ordinary. At some point I can see us going to a frag swap and saying "already got that, already got that, already got that, already got that, etc... And that is a bummer to me! Don't get me wrong, I love looking at my reef at all hours of the night and am always delighted to see the array of critters that lurk about day and night. BUT, at some point we have to look at diversifying our clubs livestock as a whole. When I got back into the reef game, I didn't stock squat from maast. I did a "fill you tank" frag pack from reefcentral. This was great, as I acquired several corals I couldn't have from maast...but over time I still see that everyone's tank has the same stuff. Come on folks, were talkin about the friggin ocean. There is all sorts of stuff I see out the that we don't have. This next year lets try something different! Lets try and diversify our clubs coral repertoire. I'm game to go in on any order that is significantly different than what we usually see in the for sale forum. Lets make it a point to mix this sucker up so we get a more diverse array of critters in our tanks.

I have a few pieces John and I purchased together from reefexotic and I am growing them out to frag with John. I really appreciate him trusting me with these pieces and they are doing well. I will be placing another big order in feb for more exotic sps with a few others. if anyone else's has the urge to step up there game let me know.

I would really like to get a couple SPS from Flower Banks coral reef in the gulf. Pretty sure not many have those.

Careful there your talking about a protected Natl. Marine Sanctuary. No collecting allowed. To be quite honest there isn't anything there coral-wise that would be thrilling to have in your tank. Porites w/christmas tree worms is the most exotic that I can think of. Maze brains,star coral,fire coral comprise the bulk. I ran dive charters just about every weekend for 6 years back in the mid 70's.
