    Default Moving my tank!

I have an 8 gallon cube, and I need to move it to my dorm which is about 30-45 minutes away. What is the best way to do this? should I just drain some of the water out of it and leave the livestock in it with an airstone?
    Here's my stock list.
    2x Occelaris clowns
    1 cleaner shrimp
    1 pom pom crab
    CUC
    couple zoas/palys
    small frogspawn
    fairly large torch
    pulsating xenia
    blue ridge sps
    tri color valida
    1 ricordea mushroom
1 regular mushroom that idk the name of.
    Thanks for the help!

No way?!?!?!?!? FINALLY ANOTHER STATE MAASTARD!!!!! I'm moving my tank tomorrow! What dorm? We gotta meetup man.

    Ok, all excitement aside..

First thing, remember when your moving this tank, everything is temperature and time sensitive. It should be the last thing you pack and the first thing you take out.

The dorm experience involves getting a key, which means your tank + inhabitants will be sitting in the car, run the AC a little cool and keep the car closed and/or running (if you want) to keep them from getting hot.

I move my corals in 4 buckets, one for each rock with coral, each bucket is half full.

As soon as you get your key, open your door and put the live stuff inside. Turn on the AC on full blast and move everything back in. Now depending on how many buckets you have, you may need to mix water. Go to aanimal wonders, RO water is like a quarter a gallon, so not too bad.

mix your salt, but in the meantime move your stuff into your tank. Usually the tank may be half full, but if your corals are submerged this is good.

salinity/ temp match your water and eventually when your good, add the water.

Make sure your RA knows your tank is under 10 gallons, and make sure he's ok with where your putting it!

good luck, if you need anything, let me know!

side note: i don't use an airstone but you could, also don't move the tank with water in it. Tanks are not designed to be moved with water in them and it would suck be be driving while your tank is busting. 5 gallon jugs+ buckets are life savers. Cover the top with a towel to keep the light out.

if you can reset up as soon as you get there I would just bag all fish and coral. then drain water in bucket and put live rock in there. keep fish and coral in a small cooler I have styrofoam boxes you are welcome to have. also I would have about 5 gallons of salt water mixed. as for cube i would leave about half inch water and be very careful not to stirr it up. when refilling use a bowl or cup to diffuse the water as to not disturb sand bed. top off water to operating levels and then acclimate fish just for temp. and add fish without water from bag as to not add dirty poop water, due time in bag.you can also add all livestock to a bucket or a good ice chest and use an air stone, remeber fish and coral stay in bags for almost 48 hours before getting to store.

San Jacinto! What about you? I was planning on moving in and getting settled, then coming back later that day to actually get my tank. Good news is I move in at 10:30 in the morning so it won't be too hot. All my stuff is still on frag plugs or small rocks, (Its a small tank) so I think that it'll be ok in some tupperware containers. Then I'll keep my fish in the five gallon bucket. The mixed water would probably help actually. I keep my SG around 1.024-1.025. Looking forward to meeting you! On another note, are you in band?
