Thread: Di resin turns brown after first use...(BRS)

Default Di resin turns brown after first use...(BRS)

I did my normal Saturday maintenance and I had some RO filters and resin I picked up from BRS a couple of weeks ago, so I swapped them...I let 5-10 gallons of water flush through there before putting the water into my mixing bucket. I then made 5 gallons for my frag tank and was about 5-10 gallons into my brute for my display tank when I noticed the color changed to light brown..... The same color it says that it turns when expended......It's never done this with buckeye resin......My membrane was replaced not to long ago, so what happened? I don't have a TDS yet, waiting to pick one up Wednesday... The one I had crapped out on me....Can my water be that bad? At the most 20-25 gallons ran through it before the color change.... Only half is light brown.....

Sounds like you have some major tds coming out of your membrane. Borrow a tds meter and check your tds coming from the membrane going to the di resin. I bet you will find out it's really high.

Ya Louis is getting some Wednesday, so I guess I have to wait...

It took a couple of months for my resin from buckeye to change to any color....

    Could my membrane be fried?

It could be bad for some reason, but that would be unusual. It might not be well seated in the housing. I would take the membrane out and then reseat it in the housing. I think that's where I would start. If that isn't it, then I would give Russ a call at Buckeye.

When mine went nuts I tried everything. I wound up replacing it. Mine did the same thing, it was eating di resin like crazy. Never did figure it out.

When you pull the membrane lubricate the black o-rings with some petroleum jelly. Some water may be getting past them and exhausting your resin.

I think it might not be seat properly..... Heard what seemed to be bubbles after I changed all the filters and fired it up....

I remember thinking to myself that I have never heard that noise before..... Well I did order more than one kit, so should I change out all the filters or just the resin?

OKay so thanks to JT i got access to some #'s.........

    water entering unit 315ppm

    Before DI resin 210

    water leaving unit 002ppm

And whats totally puzzling is the water entering the membrane is reading at 410ppm higher than what is entering the unit...... it this normal?
