ok from recent experience with both, here what I just went through. I let my bio pellet reactor get a lil clogged and obstruct the tumbling(one month of this) because I was still feeding heavy and no other nitrate absorption I had a bad out break in hair algae and bryopsis. first you need to fix the source of nitrates, which for was reduce feeding and cleaning my reactor. then I used a combo of algae fix and Kent Marin tech m(bryopsis killer) . I dosed double the algae fix even triple sometimes what is recommended( do this slowly to see effects on your livestock) I had no I'll side effects to my livestock. you use the tech m to raise your mag to about 1600 and hold it there till you see bryopsis die. after a week of dosing I would get a tooth brush and scrub heavy problem areas and the stuff just comes off, and collected in my filter sock. any questions pm or call me james. be ready it takes a lot of tech m and it's a lil pricey, and remember test through out the treatment so nothing gets away from you.
