alkalinity shock -what to do?

My little one turned on the pump on my kalkwasser container and it snowed the tank.
Nothing seemed too bothered by it other than my little acro.
The new growth tips turned white and a small line around the edge is white.
It is still extending polyps on one of the white tips but not on the other.

So now what?

Should I just wait and see? Or snip off the ends? Or it doesn't matter because it's now doomed either way?

Have you tested your PH and Alk yet? I would worry about the PH getting too high for your tanks inhabitants.
Water change time...

oh you guys... even if I dumped my whole kalk bucket into the 215 gallon tank it would barely move the pH for long.
It happened a couple of days ago.
I have a ReefKeeper so pH is monitored continuously and it's at 8.1 like always.

I was just wondering if I should snip off the tips of the little acro or not?

First off, DON'T PANIC!! I've seen this before and there is a very simple solution.
1 Grab a couple of pieces of aluminum foil. The ones in the trash that were used to cover leftover casseroles or wrap fresh fish will do just fine.

2 Place one piece of aluminum foil on your head from front to back.

3 Mash the foil down to conform to the shape of your head and fit as snugly as possible.

4 Take the second piece of aluminum foil and place across the top of the head from ear to ear.

5 Mash the second piece of foil down over the first piece making a quick tin foil hat that probably won't hold up for long but will do in a pinch.

6 Stand the two pieces of foil up and fold over at each end to make a cone shaped hat. This hat design will take a little more time, but is worth the extra effort.

7 Place the tin cone on the head and mash it all together above the head to seal out dangerous rays and deflect mind control waves outward.

8 Take lots of pictures to show your progress and post them here on MAAST.

Let's rephrase the question.
Totally ignore any other info.
Just assume there is a little acro mini colony that has burned tips but seems otherwise okay. Color good. Polyps out, etc.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH THE TIPS? snip them off or leave them on? can they regenerate or are they dead for good?

Do you see any recession of tissue? I have burned tips before and did not cut anything off - they were fine. I have also cut tips before and lost a whole colony.


I would leave it alone unless you see any tissue recession or the over all health of the coral starts to decline.

By the way I prefer fresh foil off the roll. I heard the aliens like nasty casseroles so I don't like the used foil.

I cute the burned tips off and lost most of my colony too. But, might anyway, don't know.
