I know but I was considering posting that question to my FB friends or posting it on MAAST and MAAST was the clear winner - I just knew there would be guys on here with bone boiling, turtle taxidermy experience, etc.

To be honest not much meat left. It must have been sitting in the pasture for awhile. Mostly bone and mummified skin. Once I get that out can I put some alcohol in a spray bottle and use that to sanitize it without risking the carapace to separate?

I have to say I am impressed with Jack's knowledge with turtle shells though. Very good point about the separation!

And people ask me why I am a member of MAAST?
I would of just said soak it in Vinegar and then rub Glycerin on it to preserve. But I love the other responses.

You have to be careful with the ant method. Also, it was good advice to stake it securely - nothing will upset you more than seeing yours and your neighbors dogs playing tug of war with the prize. I speak from experience.

    I second the ant hill.

Boiling DOES work well. My Mom used to make Terrapin (Diamonback) Stew all of the time. It's wonderful. Of course, eggs, cream and butter as ingredients are hard to beat. They are now threatened, so I can't get it anymore.

I was talking to a little old lady who said that she used hydrogen peroxide to disinfect her bones... Well not hers, but the ones on the bones she finds lying about.

Boiling won't be necessary IMO if all that's left are a few bits of desiccated flesh.

Take a sharp knife and remove the remaining jerky.

Yes even the ants were laughing at me. They crawled on it and decided it wasn't worth the trouble. It's just mummified skin. The meat part has long been eaten by bugs in the pasture.
Gross. Good thing I got some latex gloves from Midwest Frags...
