lol, yep. I grew up in the mountains between LA and Bakersfield.

Do the horny toads here squirt blood from their eyes for self defense?

Never heard of Lost Maples. Where is it? I tried camping on the beach one year during spring break. The road was pushed back so far that after we fell asleep a tsunami crashed our tent, lost the tent, friend lost her phone, and the Xterra almost didn't make it out of there. So I've been looking for a new camping spot lol. I heard Mustang Island was good, but I've driven past it countless times and based on appearance I would have to disagree.

CRAZZY! I used to see those all the time, over the summer, when my Dad lived in Sunrise. Of course Back then that neighborhood was brand new and surrounded by fields and pastures.

OK, haven't been camping since our Tent was stolen last year,, finally saved up enough money to buy us a new one and we are headed to Padre Island National seashore on Sat the 28th and coming back on Sunday the 29th.. Lots of fun to do an overnighter. Plenty of Beer and Smores to be had if anyone is free that weekend

I've only ever seen horny toads in New Mexico; I didn't know we had them here either. I was worried that picture was going to be the other kind of reptile we have problems with here.

And you would be correct. Nothing but a parking lot. If you want nice camping, hit Goose Island State Park in Rockport. Huge oak trees shade the sites, clean, updated bath houses, 1800' lighted fishing pier, boat ramp. Absolutely, positively my favorite place to camp in that area. Get on the very back loop, the sites are far apart, and there are so many trees you can't see the people next to you. It's quite close to Copano Bay, great wading there if you have kids, good redfishing too at the right time of year.

Hint: if you like to fish......live shrimp cast without a weight about 11:00 at night on the lighted part of the pier will limit you out on specks in about two hours.

I can't recommend Goose Island enough. It's beautiful, quiet, affordable.
