    I was going to suggest something w/ a lip on it... Sounds like Ace's idea is perfect. I'll have to remember this too

    you can get pvc shower pan liner mat in the plumbing section cut out shape you want and glue the conners up with pvc glue.it is sold by the foot .

    If just for a cushion to protect the floor, could have used some of that pink/blue foam insulation they sell at Home Depot/Lowes for attics. They sell them in different size sheets. I've used a sheet of the pink stuff from HD as a cushion under a tank on a stand. You could then cut pieces to make a lip around the edges and run a bead of silicone around the corners.
