Default SW nano to FW nano

So today i was going to do some cleaning in the nano, its a 5.5gallon with a false wall, anyways im looking for the eel cause he bites but he was nowhere to be found. Untill i look behind the filing cabinet.
8month old 12.5in snowflake eel committed suicide.

So now i think im going to convert the nano to freshwater.
I've never done freshwater so is there anything special i should know?
    Can i use the sand?
Do i need a powerhead in there?
Do i have to worry about lighting?

    ewww.
had some dried up critters myself. It's sad.
can you really keep eels in such small tanks? They always seemed like pretty big fish to me but I have no experience with eels.

I had a 6g FW before with a Betta. That was kinda nice.

If you watch it on youtube, you can read what he's done to his biocube.
