general pump and sump question

Im starting from a new 75 gallon rr tank and diy stand what pump and sump are the masses using now a day. what do you have? Im looking at maintaining both softies and hards with a few tangs /mandarins/ gobies.etc im just fishing ( no pun intended ) for ideas for my reef tank shopping list

the choices now days are numerous, and more specifics will help make the decision. imo, the larger the sump/fuge the better. fairly common thought on return is 5 to 10 times the tanks volume turnover per hour. submersible pumps are quiet, but can heat up the water more than most externals. wait 'til you start thinking about skimmers.....

i guess i wasnt much help huh? i would suggest reading as much as you can find on the different skimmers and filtration methods before you choose.

Precision Marine up in New Braunfels makes some extremely high quality sumps, and likewise there is a great diversity of options available online (Such as Eshopps brand equipment). For a skimmer, I went with a Tunze 9010 -- I'm a big Tunze fan though, and this is very likely overkill for my tank

I'm using a Mag 9.5 for my return pump -- teed off to dual returns, with a pair of Koralia 3's and a Vortech MP10 as supplemental water movement within the display.

thanks for the fast response I do like the fact of a quiet running tank so far all I have is just the tank and stand so im thinking pump sump lights ro then skimmer possibly by may 2010 chiller I do like what ive seen on precisions website do they have a showroom if not who carries alot of choices as far as refugiums or sumps

Thanks will do im also wondering what you guys are running for heaters brands and such are you running just one or multiple ones if one should fail or are you using a controller of some sort just in case one sticks in the on position

The safer way to run heater is to split your tanks need by two. If you need 100 watts then get two 50 watt heats. You are provided a bit of wiggle room if one should fail.

I have a 65g 36x18x24, internal overflow, I run a standard 29g as a fuge, bare bottom with macro algae and a mag 7 as a return they exit out a 3/4 dual line(low flow) and inside for flow I run 2x koralia. 1x koralia 2. which makes a low to med flow in the tank
