Anybody tried the new Shiner Commemorator yet?
I picked up a 6 pack last night. Gotta tell you, I've been looking forward to this. A doublebock from Shiner...
Opened it, along with a Paulener Salvator (the original doublebock) and a Sam Adams Doubleback (I bought 9 cases a year ago - still have a few left...).
Salvator is my favorite beer, that's available here in the US. Kaiser Dopplemaltz is my alltime favorite.
Anyway, the Shiner was a HUGE disappointment. The best I can figure is they thought the masses wouldn't like a true doublebock. It's like a bocknahalf. No depth that a double usually has, and not a hint of sweetness. The others just plain killed it. Mamma agrees - but she just really likes her Bud Select. Likes both the others over the Shiner. I'm going to compare it to a bottle of Optimator I have on the boat...
Anyone else?
