Just remember....it only goes together one way!

At least you have your truck to get around in. Thats what always held me back when I wanted to rip apart my Jeep to fix something....no 2nd vehicle!

no, dont have the truck anymore - differential locked up and it dropped the driveshaft and tore up the tranny - cost more to fix it than it was worth. the only other vehicle we have is christy's explorer and she needs it to drive the kids around.

so for me, it is motorcycle or walk

nope. when it stuck in third gear, i tapped the shift pin lightly with a hammer - apparently a no-no on this motorcycle. that is how it came out of place. it was actually pretty tough to move back into place, so the keeper is still strong.

im just not sure why it was stuck in 3rd gear..... it is shifting fine now.

sorry to hear your travails. When I was at your house at 130pm, bike was still in one piece. You had a busy afternoon. Thanks for making the effluent cup. I will get you pictures in couple of weeks when new reactor is up and running.

Have you considered replacing the engine seals, gaskets, clutch plates, clutch springs and big end bearings while it's out of the frame? Generally considered a good insurance idea right now. I know that when ever I pull a motor that I always replace those items. That's when they are easy to replace whether needed or not. Sucks having to pull it all back out in a month because of something else. I swear by Yamabond and Gaskacinch (but that's a shop staple cause of the artwork on the can).

Almost told you to replace the chain but had a notion this was a driveshaft. Now is also the time to check all those cables. I love to replace clutch cables when the bike looks like that.

normally i would agree with your ideas here mike, but since the bike only has 12,000 miles on it, i dont think i will replace anything ATM. i have already replaced the throttle cables and the clutch cable looks good.

you are correct, it is shaft driven.
