oh, and for running go to a proper running shop if you havent and get fitted for a decent pair of shoes after they have looked at your footfall and stuff, it will severely reduce your injury risk, speaking from experience of running in poor shoes its worth it... also the best ones for you often arent the most expensive either

I didn't read through the entire thread, but my wife quit smoking about 15mos ago and lately although she was eating less and less, was still gaining weight. She spoke to a Dr and had some tests ran only to find out her Thyroid had basically stopped working and had high blood pressure. The Dr immediately put her on some meds and told her that within 6 mos she should begin to start losing some weight, well as of yesyerday she has lost some, not all, but is making progress. Can't say you hve any medical conditions but if you haven't been checked you may want to.

i think youre supposed to stay away from carbonated drinks as well. mainly just water.

as far as running, the body for life book has a thing where instead of jogging the same pace for 40 min each time, youd have to vary it every minute. that way your body never gets used to what youre doing

eating small meals every 2 hrs does help, and if you need to snack on something make sure its something healthy like carrots

it takes a lot of determination and you need people around you to support what you do because if not, youll end up with people ragging on you everyday and making you want to stop.

I'd lift weights more, the more muscle you build the higher your metabolism. The higher your metabolism, the more quickly you lose weight. You'd be suprised how much weight you can lose just by lifting & doing zero cardio, though I say you still stick with your cardio too.

So far, three days, still "just" 1lb, with about ~1800 calories and good exercise each day.

I went to Run Gear Run a month or so ago and got some nice shoes. Apparently I majorly land on the outsides of my foot and this can cause injury/knee problems, so they recommended I get some extremely cushy shoes. They feel nice and they're pretty lightweight, I'm definitely happy with them. Although my lower legs do feel... not right, I guess?... up through a couple days after I run.

Honestly, I don't have much support from my wife. Not because she's mean, but she's naturally thin (5'4", 100 lbs) and doesn't exercise or have any special diet at all, so she doesn't understand how difficult it can be to lose weight. Mostly I just get comments along the lines of "what's so hard about this? just don't eat!" and "just do what I do, I'm thin and I don't try at all."

She thinks I must go out of my way to eat this much, like I'm trying to be fat. I guess people think everyone else is like themself... I understand because I'm often guilty of that too.

I totally agree. I normally lift weights three times a week, splitting it into back/biceps, shoulders/triceps, and a leg day. I've cut out the leg day as I run though, because of the lingering "pain" (for lack of a better word). I know more weight-lifting would be ideal, but I'm going with a less-ideal plan just because I've always wanted to run a marathon. Just for the prestige of being able to say I finished one, even if it took me 5 hours.

Absolutely, join in! I'd still really just be competing with myself (I'd much rather bowl a 190 and lose to someone who bowled a 200 than bowl a 130 and beat someone who rolled 120), but it'd be fun and be good motivation.

this hobby makes you lazy ;] thats my excuse. before this hobby, i was into working out and was too into it. id freak out if i missed a meal. had to work out certain days. it was too much of a hassle. i lost a lot of muscle and gained weight, but ill get back to it eventually

for the most part, you should do it for yourself, so you wont have complications later in life

what i did was focus on a goal, i would look into magazines and look for what id like to get to, a reasonable goal. just post pics of yourself on the wall the way you look now, and pics of what youd like to look like. think of that every time you work out and you WILL want to lose weight and be healthier

btw, stay away from the scale. just weigh yourself in the mornings after you use the restroom to get your real weight. think of how many lbs youd like to lose in 3 months and work on it. dont look at the scale until then
