$80 for xenia?

im in london and dropped into the local reef shop, its funny seeing what is hot and whats not here.... radiant wrasses, puffers, moray eels...always in stock, the biggest lionfish ever...radiant wrasse always are in stock there

but since living in the states my idea of corals has changed, brown coloured xenia was going for 40 ($80) and a really nice monti frag i hadnt seen before was 20 ($40), they had the biggest scollies id ever seen... i used to love the show tanks in there but since having seen a couple of really nice ones in the states, theyre nice, but my standards have got better haha

out of interest the standard equipment stocked in the shop is tunze

And I am sure that in Australia, those aussie acans would be cheaper there than here...could be that xenia is a "foreign" coral for them???? A hard to get item...LOL...when we all know those things take over a tank in no time? Who knows...LOL...

Very True they farther something has to ship to get the store the more it will be for the customer.

Its like in Indonesia, and in Iraq, The Purple tangs are native and the Yellow tangs are the Expensive ones for them....

But do keep in mind that you can't simply say that because it would cost you $80 in American Dollars does not mean that is it's value. It's value is exactly the same as paying $40 here in the states if not even a little less. You are getting caught up in the simple 2:1 conversion calculator. Most folks get paid about numerically the same as we here in the US. This is why I get so sick of hearing about $10 a gallon of gas in England. It's not $10, it is high but not that high. When the Dollar was stronger that coral was still 40 Pounds, but converted to about $55 US. Blame the US/Iraq war debt for that. What will really shock you is the 18% VAT, Value added tax, you pay on every item. They don't have an income tax so everyone gets taxed on what they buy.

Feel free to pick me up a set of Whitworth spanners while you are there. The Norton could use some.

If you compared UK salaries and cost of living with US salaries you'd find that gas is the equivalent of $10/gall, however, the imperial gallon is about 10% larger than the US gallon and they drive smaller cars which get better gas mileage. And they DO have an income tax in the UK in addition to 18% VAT. Why do you think I moved to the US!

haha i might try and sneak back with a camera... i went to another store but they were closed when they were meant to be open...

whitworth spanners....i should get into getting items and bringing them to the states, i already have 2 ryobi lights for someone as theyre £15 and on ebay apparently 60-80 in the states as they arent retailed there.. dont think i'll be able to get the spanners but might be possible on a future trip if youre serious....
