Default Female Mandarin - free adoption

My female Mandarin is in need of a large established tank. I was bad and purchased her on impulse about a month ago before knowing if she would eat other foods like my other Mandarin. She is thin and I'm not sure if a crab got to her, but she has torn fins. At this point she is still very alert and active. I've got her in my little fuge and she's clearing the flatworms and pods.

    I'm in NW Austin.

If you plan to come to the meeting, I'll take her.

i'm sorry to hear that, i wish i had enough tank for another mandarin but i've already got one and she's just right with food. i think another mandarin and there wouldn't be enough food for the both of them. i hope things work out for her and she makes it thru! i'm sure someone on here would be able to give her a great home!

I'm sorry to hear that your mandarin isn't doing well. I'd offer to take her, but I'm too late. That and my pod population has pretty much disappeared on me.

On a side note, it's probably not a good idea to put 2 females in the same tank. I've seen a tank with 2 female Mandarin Dragonettes a while back and I noticed that they were fine as long as they had some distance between them, but as soon as they would get near each other a fight would break out between them. Maybe the tank was too small, but I've never seen Mandarins act that way before. They may require enough space to estalish their own territory. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Thanks everyone She is being adopted this evening and going to an ideal tank. Much, much better than going back to the tiny LFS I found her in.

You and I still disagree about Beemer's gender, lol. But I truly appreciate the advice.

In this situation, I think this helps to prove my male gender theory. Beemer and this female (Beemette) got along great. They spent a lot of time together hunting in the tank and often slept next to each other at night. It really made me feel that they were two different genders.

But who knows, maybe they were a same sex couple. My tank is very open minded

But anyhoo, I have learned my lesson. No more rescuing sad looking tiny mandarins unless they are eating. I thought I could help, but I didn't

No disagreement here. I was refering to the person who wants to adopt her. If they aready have a female they should think twice about also adopting your Mandarin. Male and Female Mandarins are pretty easy to sex IMHO.

I agree, mandarins are on of the easiest to sex. Rounded dorsal fin and it's a female. Pointed dorsal fin and it's a male.
