I took all the filter media out of the mechanical filter and occasionally i'll see a pod or two get shot through the spout and into the tank. Just have live rock rubble in the baskets.
I'm definitely going to try out the frozen cubes!

Mine eats mini mysis and fresh water mysis. I have had him for over a year. Just like Copper Bands you have to have a natural source until they change over. Enjoy, they are a great addition because they bother no one and no one bothers them.

Our female mandarin started eating frozen when we first introduced Rod's food into the tank. A LFS employee said the same thing happened with his. She will occasionally eat frozen mysis and brine (we never feed just one thing is always a few mixed in together), but does not seem to eat it every time, just when the mood strikes her. Our scooter blenny eats the frozen too, by the way. But the male mandarin has never been witnessed to eat anything that's not hiding in a crevice of LR.

If you're really trying to get your mandarin to eat frozen, you could give Rod's a try. I bet we're not the only MAASTards that have some in their freezer that they rarely ever feed anymore... (since that red slime algae discovery).

Wow! It's great to hear that so many people are having success getting their mandarins to eat frozen foods. My last mandarin (RIP) was eating spirulina enriched frozen brine daily. He was a large fish, but wasn't a fan of the frozen PE Mysis. He eat frozen bloodworms from time to time though.
