Default Help with my new Ocotopus skimmer.

Picked up a new Octopus NW-150 tonite and it doesn't appear to work. This is my first skimmer so maybe I'm not doing something right. I have it in a depth of about 8 inches of water. I've tried adjusting the riser pipe and the little venturi thing. When I plug it in all it does is fill with water, not a single bubble to be found....

Do you have any additives in your water? ie declorinators?

These make my octopus skimmer run erratic and only fill the cups with water. Its best to wait 1 day after a water change is my opinion for this skimmer.

Also some people say you need a break in period of 24 hours before the skimmer will work properly.

Another myth Ive heard is to wash your skimmer out with vinegar when you first get it.

    Hope this helps.

Bring it over, I'll test it on my tank for a few months and let you know how it goes! LOL There are several other Octopus owners around, hopefully one of them can help get you going.

I got it going. For whatever reason I have to blow into the air/venturi tube to get it going right after turning it on...is this normal?
