Emerald crabs are a bit of a sensitive subject after my old one tore his starfish in half! Not a pretty sight!

The fear of another ax-murderer still lingers in their household...

That's the only situation in which I've seen emerald crabs stray from acceptable food sources. BTW, which particular species starfish did you lose to the emerald crab? My emerald and strawberry crabs don't do anything destructive other than keep certain algae and mysis shrimp issues in check. They also give the arrow crab a decent battle for territory occasionally too as apparently mythrax crabs with a shell diameter over an inch pack some serious heat against him.

Well, my mithrax was all hunky-dory for several months in my tank, happily eating large quantities of my Coraline algae, and then he flipped out one day and started ripping off Xenia branches and eating them. I was kinda angry, so I talked to my friend and he said he wanted another one since his last one died on him...not to mention he has Xenia growing like weeds...so the situation was perfect.

I waited a while to give him the crab, however....I obtained a nice, double-ended feather duster and the crab tried ripping the crown feathers off, so I was like, "ok, your time just ran out..."

I gave him the crab (which had about a 3/4 inch carapace) after about a dozen capture attempts( I actually lured him onto a rock by placing the duster crowns on it and pulling the whole rock out once he was on...)

So, in he goes into Rhett's tank, and, overnight, he ends up ripping the sand-sifting starfish in half, killing it. I feel sorry for whoever bought it from Darby's after Rhett took it to them...

ROFLMAO, I wish my emerald would kill some of the xenia in my tank.
