i love to camp! I was stationed in hawaii for a bit and LOVED camping on Bellows AFB. Trees everywhere for shade and the beach just a hundred yards from the camping area. We went to South Padre Island last year to camp (was a blast but need 4x4 to get to the jettys up north) and usually hit one of the camp sites on the Guadalupe river once a year. I prefer camping near water to cool off in the middle of the day or do some fishing...definitely want to check out Goose Island. thanks for sharing Sherita!

I'm planning on having my travel trailer at Goose Island for the MAAST trip. They have a fantastic pavilion area over there with covered tables. Maybe we could all have a get together/wiener/marshmallow/whatever roast. Plenty of room for kids to run wild all over the place too.

I forgot to mention, Goose Island also has some lovely nature/birdwatching trails as well. I plan on going down a day or two early and getting in some fishing and collecting, if anyone wants to join me.

Nice catch Jack, Man I have not seen a wild Horn Toad in years.

My wife and I love camping, have not made it out this year and with it getting hot already tent camping is going to have to wait until this fall.

My favorite places to camp here in central/South texas

Pedernales state park- Amazing, makes you really feel like there isnt anyone for miles. Excellent camp sites

Garner state park- Great for fall when there are a lot less people and the weather is nice. I have never seen so many stars, you can see the milky way. On the Frio river, nice Clear COLD water. Camp in the newer area away from everyone- Nice camp sites

Los Maples- Great park for hiking, during droughts good luck finding a good swimming hole, but the scenery is beautiful. - Campsites are a little to close together, but clean and kept

If you drive up north a bit camping on the Brazos river near Whitney is nice to.

Went camping this weekend at padre...So much fun.. However, this time my kiddo walk back to the dunes behind out tent and starts screaming " Rattlesnake!! DAD!!! Rattlesnake!!!!!"... sure enough right at the edge of the dunes in the sand.. was about a 3 ft western diamondback. he had stepped within one foot of it and it started rattling at him and slowely crawled away.... scary!

So I've been looking for a new camping spot lol. I heard Mustang Island was good, but I've driven past it countless times and based on appearance I would have to disagree.
Its weird, about Mustang Island, its a State Park, yet the beaches there really are never cleaned. Either trash or seawood is usually all over the beach. But the free public beaches around Port Aransas, hell they are just about always clean.
