lol what's fun to do is print to people's printers with un-encrypted wireless.

aaaahahahaha! I'ma have to do that next time! I've placed documents on their desktops before but never printed, that's a good one.

As for the cable, TW has always been pretty solid for me. Not only at home w/phone service but I have about 60 locations at work on TW connections and they're all solid. If you do in fact swap that model and continue having problems just call them back and tell them so, they'll send another tech out to look at your lines.

Also check your neighbors. It's amazing how many times TW thinks it's local to your location, and it's hardware down the street in one of their boxes.

BTW, TWC is much better than DSL. I just plain HATE AT&T.

If you live in a house, see if your neighbors are having any troubles. There are several of us here, and when TW has problems we all call each other. Then, if we are ALL having problems, we ALL call TW. The truck usually arrives within 30 minutes.

I have AT&T DSL and have had problems with it in the past, so no company is perfect. I had the same kind of tech support results (from someone in India), following prompts on a screen to tell me to make sure my modem is powered up, make sure the network cable is plugged in, and turn it off for 30 seconds. Of course I had already done all those things. After putting up with her for 15 minutes, she finally logged a repair tech to come out to my house. By the next day when the tech called me, it was working fine. Seems they were just having some network issues.

My modem is probably 6 years old and slow. I wonder if one of the AT&T stores will give me a new one?

it may be the modem. i was having the same issue, when i finally had a tech guy tell me "wow that modem is ancient - it isnt even capable of the speed you are paying for" he told me to take it in and trade it in for a new one - works like a champ now.

What is the newer model ?

I quickly browsed this thread and I don't think Anyone asked if he is using RG-6 coax cable & not to use RG-59 cable. Also if he is using a coax splitter to connect 2 devices on the same line (ie a TV and a Cable Modem). Also if the cable is buried underground or exposed to air and with a cracks in the weather guard sheath. If the covering cracks and the line gets wet it will cause resistance\noise on the line and your internet will be sporadic when it rains. Those are some definite issues I have seen with cable internet in the past 8 years. -David
