I've had them host to all sorts of stuff from frog spawn, brains, hammers, torch, galaxia, xenia, mushrooms, to anemones. They typically cause whatever else they host with to die. May try moving the flowerpot to the sump or fuge for a day or two to confuse the clowns.
I once had a panther grouper host to a Gigas clam, the clam died after about 2 weeks of this.
I have a pair of clowns hosting in a hammer coral. They have been there for a few months. Should I be worried about the hammer? I was not concerened before but when you say they cause things to die makes me a little nervous.
Clowns will kill that flowerpot probably. Goniopora are sensitive anyway, let alone with a clown wriggling around and slapping against it. Matty, you should try and move the frogspawn somwewhere harder for the clown to host in it. If you have a good amount of rock, try to get it close to a corner and the surface of the water. That will leave the clown with a small portion to try and host in, if it hasn't already gotten confuzzled over the move. Make sure to do this in an area with acceptable lighting conditions as not to frizzle fry your hammer.
can i put the flower pot in a bucket for a day?
my clowns have also hosted my hammer, frogspawn, mushrooms, clams, and are now currently in the process of killing 2 of my favorite zoa colonies :( until now i have been lucky and nothing has died but i think my luck has run out
The clown will kill the flower pot, 99% guarantee. I would remove one or the other. Moving for a couple of days won't work, they will eventually go back to it. My wife is successfully keeping 11 Gonioporas but her tank is and will remain clownless. I had one for 2-1/2 yrs and I added a clown and it was dead in two weeks.
