Default anybody else clean their sumps

I've been pretty good at cleaning my sump once a month. I can see the difference if I slack when algae creeps up in the display, I syphon all the water out and then use a wet vac to finish up. not really worried about pods as I have tons in display and I'm sure the populate right back up in the sump.

I pull a lot of waste out of there, why would any one wanna let that build up. I see it like changing the oil on your vehicle.

    This...

I syphon out all the waste every other water change. I don't have sand or any sort of fuge so the waste is easier to see and syphons right up.

    Geez. Can't a guy kid around? 🙊

I know how much gunk builds up down there. That's why I didn't put any sand in my sump this time around.

I do have a live sand bed in mine.

I also have macro, a couple of shrimp and a couple of turbo snails. So other than stirring the sand bed to keep anything from accumulating I don't clean my sump. Is this a mistake? Should I ditch the live sand bed and CUC in the sump?
