I have a Splendid Dottyback in my 40B which has been doing really well. When I originally got him, I had intended to get a second one and try and pair them up. Unfortunately, that was several months ago and it's taken me this long to find another one. So my current dottyback is about double the weight of the prospective new one (mostly wider rather than longer), and well established. Re-scaping isn't an option with this tank. Basically, it's one huge rock and that's about it. Despite being listed as 'very aggressive,' I don't see it sniping at the other fish. It lives in its giant rock and seems to ignore everybody else.

So has anybody paired up dottybacks? Is the new one just going to get killed off in such a small tank? Will being paired make the dottyback(s) more aggressive towards the other fish, or is it about the same?

Any advice much appreciated. I'd hate to put such a pretty fish in a bad situation if it's unlikely to work out.
