I called Coralife this afternoon to report my dual timer went defective after four months of use. I told them I didn't have my receipt but I did have my bank statement showing when and where I purchased it. After talking to him I found out why dual timers have a bad reputation with metal halides. He said because of the wattage draw of halides of 175 watts and over it puts to much strain on the timers and they fail. He also stated this fact is not commonly known among the aquarium trade. He said to resolve the issue is to use 2 of there digitial timers since they can handle the high wattage load. So they are shipping me two new digitial timers at no cost.

After learning this new fact, when I start my new tank buld this year I am leaving room for a reef keeper or apex unit in the budget.

I've been down that road. They work fine with t5's but MH will smoke them.
And by smoke I mean literally! Mine smoked and burnt the plastic housing.
