Has anyone built or had any experience with metal stands. I've been thinking about making the stand for my 180gal out of metal.
Possibly framing it from 2" square tubing. any ideas? The tank is 72x24x24

I'm going to be making one for a 72x18 125 gallon this weekend or the next. It'll be my first steel stand. I plan on using 1" square tubing--1/8". 2" would be overkill and weigh a ton imo. The second picture in the thread link is what my design will look like. Only I will use 45 degree bracing on all corners. The wrap will include a side door for the sump as the cross beams will likely inhibit getting a decent sized sump in. Also I plan on tacking on 1" lengths of 1" angle iron along the square tubing to attach the wood wrap.

That is sweet. Sounds like a fun project. .![]()

Thanks for the link, there's some good info in there. And now that I've thought about it a little more 2" is prob overkill. My only fear is building it too light and having the tank shift. That would be no bueno. ha
