    Default New to MAAST/Hobby!

    Hello everybody,

My name is Marshall and I am fairly new to the hobby. My girlfriend has done a 100 gal. FOWLR tank in the past (along with other small tanks, but that was her favorite) and she got out of the hobby after somebody came over for a party a few years back and crashed her tank. She recently told me I could take over the 100 gal. tank, and she would help me along the way. The plan is to start off with another FOWLR tank, but I would love to turn it into a reef tank once I learn a lot more and won't make careless mistakes that can be avoided by doing proper research. I am really excited to get into this, and it's something fun for both of us to do together. She already makes fun of me (harmlessly, of course) for staring at the tank for hours when I all I have in there are a couple of mushroom rocks, live rock, two urchins, and some hermit crabs. I look forward to getting involved in the forums, learning, and hopefully getting to meet some of you.

A brief bit about me: I am a chemistry undergrad at UTSA. I work as a dog groomer. I love animals, sci-fi/fantasy, computer games, science, and typically all things nerdy.

Thank you for the welcome. I will definitely be asking questions along the way. I haven't gotten to the point yet where I know exactly what questions to ask, but I am sure there will be plenty coming soon. I intend to document my progress as we get this tank to where we want it, so I will be more than happy to post pics as I get them. At the moment I only have one pic (post-Nitrogen cycle), but it is at home on my laptop so I can't post it atm.

Yes, we do have other pets. Right now we have two German Shepherds, two Bearded Dragons, a squirrel that we have been taking care of because its mother was killed before its eyes opened, and a Columbian Rainbow Boa.

Hush, Chris! He grooms dogs, not people.

Welcome on board there, Marshall. My daughter's and me, our first tank was a 100 gallon tank non reef ready. We would stare at the one rock we had in there for hours because everytime something moved... Definitely good times ahead.

Look forward to pictures soon. Even if it's just a mushroom.

Haha. Well, I'm already trading grooms for car maintenance, so once I do some research on coral that sounds like a plan! Plus, I am always willing to help out the doggies!
