Led question
Is there a difference in the led we buy from a LFS or online dedicated fish supplier and the ones you can buy as DJ equipment? If so is it substantial enough to hinder coral growth? Thanks on advanced for your replies.

You mean like stage lighting? Yes there is a difference. Most stage fixtures are going to be 1W and may lack the spectrums necessary for coral growth. You want something tailored to our hobby for the best results, or build your own.

Oh ok. I was just curious because a friend is getting out of the DJ business and has quite a few panels and asked if they could be used on his tank. I didn't think they could but just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the reply rrasco!

They are largely in part the same technology, just not ideal for the application. I know because I work at a stage lighting company and look at them quite often to get ideas for my DIY fixtures.

Oh ok. Do you make DIY fixtures to sale or just for personal use?

Just for personal. I could help you layout a design if you need some help. Also look into rapidled and aquastyleonline, they both sell DIY kits. Rapid will sell cree systems which are a little more expensive, but I usually opt for Aquastyle and bridgelux LEDs, they are cheaper and still work well.
