RS is NOT easy to get into. In some cases yes, but they are ranked like the 11th hardest place to get hired at. My brother works there, I've been trying to get there for a few years now, but I also don't like change so I'm on the fence. I've been all the way up to the in-person interview and didn't get selected :/ I'm a windows admin, but I'm not sure I want to keep doing this, I don't find it fun anymore since I'm really a software engineer. Most of the cool tech jobs are in Austin/Dallas/Houston. IMO, if you're in IT in SA, you need to be working at RS. There are alternatives, but I truly believe that is the place to be. You could also check out USAA, Valero, SWRC, and the ISDs.
-You had me at PWM
the former "rackers" i work with hated it there
I think a lot of it depends on which department you work in. Some jobs are support roles handling customers, some are internal IT jobs, and various other positions (development, engineering, security). I'm sure I would hate working customer facing support too.
