I don't think it had anything to do with godaddy.
DNS records are propagated across the internet and point you to the correct nameservers where you can reach the hosted site. Since these records point to cartama servers, godaddy couldn't have affected anything. The HTTP request queries the nameserver where to go and then requests the site from the web server. DNS lookup doesn't occur on godaddy's server, it's whatever DNS server you are using, more than likely, your ISP's. Since the cartama servers were down, they obviously couldn't serve that request.
