Bioballs can be an effective method of nitrate reduction provided they aren't submerged and maintained properly. Most people will tend to trade them out for live rubble rock. You can run more water in the sump effectively increasing your water capacity and stability of the system.
Can we get a pic of how you set up the sump?

Tank does look awesome They say if it ain't broke don't fix it but i switch to a refugium myself on my 90 gl from wet dry and bio balls too and all is still doing well so lucky nothing went wrong during switch. Plus pods are growing like crazy and should be able to house a mandarin soon
