Your macro is gone? Did it die off or did you take it out? I'm not sure what the rule of thumb is with macro, but the way I grow it is to let it grow until it's growing up and out of the water. Then I know it's pulling as much out of the water as possible as well as oxygenating the water. When I trim it back I do no more than half a bucket full at the most. Not sure if I'd do the same thing with anything other than chaetomorpha, for fear of it releasing back into the water column. But with the chaeto, it just keeps going. The extra oxygen in the water helps with PH as well... I think. :/
