Adding more rock to a stocked tank?

With out "curing" what is the second best way of adding larger peices to a stocked tank? What kind of risks are common with adding some directly, well after a good scrubbin.

best way to do this is to buy fully cured rock from another reefers tank. I would not add non cured rock to a established tank. IMO to much of a risk. post in the wanted section, maybe someone who is taking a tank down or looking to thin their rock out.

This way your only worries would be pest, so just make sure to get pest free rock from someone.

I added about 30 pounds of Marco rock to my established 90 gallon tank with no problems. It was not cured just dry rock. I just rinsed it really well.

adding dry rock and adding live rock are completely different. Of corse you can add dry rock anytime you want for the most part without any problems. Granted a peice of bleach white rock is going to stand out like bird poop on a black car ;)

Not sure if thats what lildingy is looking for in a establiashed tank, but if so its cheap. A piece of cured live rock is going to blend in with the current rock.

Dont get me wrong Im thinking of using dry rock to start my own tank.. but it will all look the same.

I understand and yes it did stick out like a sore thumb but only for a little while. It's all purple and the same color as the rest of the rock that was already in the tank.

My two cents, depends on your water volume. If your tank is large enough 100-200 gallons, I doubt that adding 10 lbs would do much more than a tiny little spike. You definitely shouldn't put a very large amount in a short period of time.

I've always stored my new dead live rock in the sump to start coloring up. And I am probably wrong, but I feel like it picks up more pods in the sump which are then transported to the display when I get around to moving it.

Thank you guys for the help, I wouldnt exactly call it established . I would figure total volume about 60 gal. The rock I was gonna add is some of the dry stuff I got from allan. I just feel I need to raise the acro up a bit.
