Thanks folks, we had a blast. All theses were taking with a old point and shoot which is why there are not any close ups..

Allan I do not have any family in California, my wife does but in the LA or San Francisco area. We will be going to San Francisco our next California trip.

Mission Beach was cool dude, we loved that entire area OB, PB, MB etc.. Cool people, the surf, good eats and drinks.. Being a vintage van and volkswagen fan my self I was in heaven. Do to all the surfers being their for all these years they were all over the place. So many cool classic surf rides.

We will be going back to Sand Deigo for sure, we loved it. Could see our selves living their for a couple of years easy. Would not stay though, the cost of living its a bit to high to stay for the long haul.

I just scoured google maps south of LA to see if I could find that rock... nothing, and looking at the map of bakersfield in relation to LA, the camp could have very well been to the north of LA. I do remember a lot of cliffs and sand dunes that you can jump off of and fall for a moment before being swept up in the roll.

My in laws just went to SD on their way up to Disney Land. Now everyone in the family is planning on going out there sometime in the near future. I'm hoping to get a two day trip out to the los padres national forest around the lebec area... but it's a hard sell to those who didn't grow up in those mountains.

My cousin said it was cold as heck out at san diego, I thought maybe he was just weak. But you said the water was really cold? Brrr

San Diego is always cooler (in the coastal communities) which I loved. Im hot natured so my personal perfect comfortable weather shorts and a T Shirt is lower 70s and that what we got there during the day, morning and late night we had 60s.
My wife was is cold natured and we just made sure she carried a lite jacket with her at all times and she was fine.

Whats crazy is watching San Diegos weather forecast on their local TV

They give 4 separate forecast for Sand diego

Coastal, inland, Mountains, Desert. When we were there we were getting High 60s Mid 70s coastal which is where we stayed our entire trip, but folks in the mountains and desert we getting temps of 110-120 degrees!

I friend told me the temp swing from the coast to the mountains/desert can be up to a 50+ degree differnce! Wow.

So you know all that you want to do is on the coast. Sea World, The Zoo, Beach, Lighthouses, Kayaking, surfing.... We had no reason to leave a 20 mile radius while we were there, but managed to put almost 300miles on the rental car from just cruising from place to place and exploring all the little niches.

I remember you saying you were going out there, but it's just crazy because I spent the last week bumming it up on OB, MB, and PB too. Seems like everyone is going to SD right now. My extended family has been renting the same condos on MB for the last 18 years, there is about 30 of us so we get 3 of them. I was just on that pier in OB on Wednesday during the farmers market. I thought the weather was pretty good, 69-80 degrees all week. As usual right on the beach at night it got a little cooler with the winds, but that's expected; it's what I love about it out there. Water was 65 all week...a little chilly. The biggest problem was all the jelly fish this year, people getting stung left and right. There was also a beached seal carcass near tower 14 on Friday.

I've actually never been to the zoo either; it's in the plans. Went to Birch a few years ago. Some other things we have done is jet skiing, wakeboarding, and deep sea fishing. We were gonna rent a bigger boat this year, but that never developed.

Nice Pics. This is the view from our balcony overlooking Mission Beach Park.

After years of searching, I'm glad you found it!
