Thread: Dual BRs Reactor?

  1. #1

    Default Dual BRs Reactor?

I've got one and noticed that about a week to two weeks after replacing media monthly, the GFO quits tumbling or I see little to no movement and this w it wide open valve... Is this good or bad? Is there a more granular GFO that would allow for better water pass through? Or would it be better to buy just two singles? Just wanted opinions...

Tagging along. This is a product I am considering buying. So, naturally, I wanna know what happens.

I have one setup on my tank and I'm happy with it, I too noticed that after a few weeks the flow is reduced, but I also don't have a prefilter on the reactor pump, I will probably add one soon. IMO gfo and carbon don't need much flow, I would imagine gfo would be better with low flow then higher flow.

I can chim in on this since I had this problem as well. What cartridge are you using? They have a new hard shell one that after switching to I have had good flow all of the time. Also I use to run the reactor with the GFO and Carbon both tumbling but after talking to Louis and ER he advised me to let the GFO tumble and to pack the carbon between the sponges. Also with the new cartrige you remove the spong for the GFO side since it had a hard plastic top with slots in it to catch the GFO. Check it out on BRS.

I'm using the new cartridges I got from Louis.... Is there a more granular gfo to allow better flow or is it better to invest in two singles?

I had the old cartridges and switched them out, still the same thing. I tried different pumps and different media and all gave the same thing. That is the reason I switched to a single nextreef reactor. Works very well.
    Thanks

Are you guys taking the sponge filter out of the GFO cartridge? It allows for better flow if you do.

Also I use the GFO Granular Ferric Oxide and the Premium ROX 0.8 Aquarium Carbon.

It's working very well. I've had the same media in there for about a month and it's still tumbling. Yes the flow has slowed down a bit but that's because the carbon side is getting backed up because I still use the sponges in that side. The GFO is still tumbling good and the flow is not all the way open.
