WHICH PUMP DO YOU LIKE AND WHY

I need to get a new pump for my tank. was looking at the
Iwaki or the PanWorld pumps,
which do you own or recommend and why.
I have read the reviews on both pumps, would like some MAAST input.

I haven't used them but reeflo pumps look nice

External, I'm assuming? I have two reeflos dart/snapper I like. They seem to be the best bang for your buck as far as output versus power consumption goes. The only bad thing is the seals will eventually wear out and have to be replaced. Relatively simple and cheap to do, but is inconveniencing because it starts to drip by the shaft when they go and if you don't have seals on hand you may have a few days wait to get them (*hint hint* LFS should carry these!). I try to keep a set on hand when I am using these pumps. I didn't get to use the pumps I have for long, but I was happy with them when they were running. Newer ones are a lot quieter. Plus they have great customer service, that guy (Chris I think?) will go out of his way to help you. They do output a lot though, so I guess that is something to consider as well.

i second what robert said, i have a dart pushing the closed loop on my 250 and it is silent outside the stand

I have a reeflow dart but looking for something alittle smaller and yes the reeflows do leak at shaft.

I have a Iwaki on my 65g sps tank and have had it for 8months, no loss off power or flow but does have a little wine to it. Much better than the internal sump pumps i have used in the past. This is my first external pump and love it.

I personally prefer smaller internal pumps. No real reason to pump more than 500GPH or so through the sump. If you're using your pump to feed auxiliary stuff like reactors, then a bigger pump may be the answer, but if not, go small internal IMO. They are quieter and less risk of leaks due to bulkheads and/or plumbing.

^ agree I like the low and slow method with my fuge/sump I've always ran sicce pumps with no problems, currently running 2x sicce 2's one for each overflow, my 70g had a #3.

I have used Pan World Pumps since 2003. CB Pets used to get them and then I ordered them online, Louis can now get them through BRS. My favorite is the 50PXX - 1110 GPH @ 90 watts. And you will hear the cooling fan if you listen closely. My second favorite and I use it as a day time pump to add more circulation to my 300DD is the 40 PX, 480 GPH @ 45 watts and no fan so no noise. I also used the 100 PXX 1270 GPH @ 130 watts but it was noticeable, not irritating but you knew you had a pump running. I love using the two pump system because at 10 pm when my second pump shuts down my over flows get much quieter plus a much gentler flow through my tank and then at 8 am we are back to full force.

We've had great luck, so far, with our Iwaki, Panworld and QuietOne pumps. QuietOne pumps generally work best inside the sump. This, of course, reminds me of the $200 QuietOne I loaned a Maastard and never got back...
