Brita Filter
For a small tank, top off water... would a brita filter be sufficient?

I would think not. It's no where near as fancy shmancy as a RO/DI.

I was thinking that it would just be for top off... so the DI portion, reckon it would play a huge factor when talking about a cup or two a day?
I guess I could check the TDS tonight when i get home.

just depends, I mean if people are using tapwater then why not this thing. All depends on what you are shooting for and what your specific aquarium maintenance habits are like.
Allan, you are not really one to care what the masses think anyways...do it and let us know how it works.

No, not at the sake of innovation.
Rest assured that I've come to the decision to tie the little box into the big system. I'm on day four, nothing seems amiss, but top off and water changes for two systems is irritating. That way I can just forget about it.

dude you have always been an innovator and have had some very cool ideas, right along with Ace and Mike. No reason to stop now.

But I'm so danged lazy, rob, so lazy.
It really divides my attention, and when my attention is divided so is my interest. I was just thinking of it this morning. And the prospect of going back to running tests to check water quality...
I will do one today, but tomorrow I'm going to tie it in with the other tank.

Why not just stick with what you know and not taking a chance on crashing your tank.
I'm sure someone has tried it out before, thus we don't use Brita filters for our water.
Just a thought.;)

feh, it'd be fine. do recall that ace ran many of his beautiful tanks on a carbon filter alone, which is essentially what a brita filter is. it will never be as pure as r/o, but that's ok, as a reefer, i know i let filters go for longer than they should, and brita can be no worse than that. oh yeah, and i have used brita water a number of times when i didn't want to flood my garage after forgetting about turning on my r/o.
