Default LPS not looking so hot

This past week I added 10 gallons of saltwater to my tank when I added my sump. Initially, the water was somewhat cloudy which I believe was a result of a poorly rinsed filter sock on my part and the next day, the soft corals in my tank were not opening as well as they should have been. 4 days later and my corals and anemone are back opening but my hammer, and two duncans are still not opening all the way. Both the duncans are excreting a yellow, pollen looking substance. I believe my hydrometer may have been off and my salt was either too salty or not salty enough. The water was mixed for 8 hours and was temp and ph matched. Is this yellow pollen the sign of a dying duncan coral?

Could be just expelling some gunk they took in. Do you see any receding tissue? If not, they probably will be ok. A extra bag of carbon in a high flow area might be a good idea.

Get your salinity verified, toss the hydrometer and get a refractometer.

As of now no receding tissue just gunk coming out of the heads. When I get a bit more of a budget for the tank I do plan to get a refrectometer, I just spent most of my tank savings on equipment so It may be a while for that. Thanks though! I'll get on that carbon bag!

You can borrow my refractometer or very accurate glass hydrometer. I've also got plenty of test kits, let me know what I can do to help;)

I would just get your water tested at a LFS to make sure all of your parameters are inline. Sounds like your duncan's are excreting the their zooxanthellae, that would not be good.

    Cheers,

Thanks! I'll probably mix up a batch of sw and then take it over sometime this week to see where I'm at as compared to the reading on my floating one.

Just and update, my larger duncan is showing slight tissue ressession and the smaller one is still not opening but seems to be looking somewhat decent. I'm going to the pet store to get some carbon and I'll be adding that here in an hour or so. I may have to take you up on your test kit offer Troy.
