    Default Model painting/ decals

With fathers day around the corner I want to make my dad a model of the aircraft that he spent his career in the air force working on however I've never painted a model or applied any kind of decals so I was curious if anyone out here is any good at painting/ weathering and decal application and would be willing to help me out. The model is the Tamiya 1/48 A-10, if you're any good let me know how much you would be charging and we can work something out.

weathering is the hard part you can get a cheap airbrush kit from harbour frieght and compressed air at hobby lobby. Decals are easy just follow directions dont rush. use what they call decal set and it almost makes it look like they have been painted. Do it youself you will get alot more pride out of it when you tell you dad you did it all youself. Models are just like our tanks take your time and patience. Tamiya is a very good kit. I have always liked the brand new look compared to weathered but it is just a matter of prefrence

Sounds good, just curious, whats the best thing to use to glue the pieces together? Liquid super glue or gel? Or is there a different type of adhesive?

super glue can cause the plastic to distort and get a film on it use the liquid model glue it has a consistancy of water and can be applied by capillary action they have it at hobbytown or hobbylobby use it sparingly. very easy to work with

If you want it professionally done, try the guys at www.afterburnerdecals.com.

I had them custom built an F-18 for my cousin Sara, when she became the first female CO of a Fighter Squadron - the Gunslingers. Kinda cool, since they had the decals of her plane in the set - they moved up production of the set when she became CO.

She's now Deputy CO of Air Wing Three - soon to become the Commander (commonly known as the "CAG"). This is the Air Wing assigned to the USS Harry Truman.
