    Default Fish Tank Fail!

So I was working late last night when it hit me, I had shut down all the pumps in my tank the night before for maintenance and had forgotten to turn them back on the next morning! It had been about 22 hours since there was any water movement in my tank. Of course I couldn't reach my wife by phone so I quickly wrapped up what I was working and sped code 3 all the way home. I nearly knocked my wife over racing to the tank since I figured I killed every last fish in the tank. The powder blue tang looked a little stressed, but everyone survived without a scratch.

Anyone else ever have a moment terror like I did? What sort of fish tank fail did you cause and how long did it take you to realize your mistake?

    Ugh, that's the worst feeling.

I was out christmas shopping in stone oak and get a call from my apartment complex: "There is water leaking from you apartment into the breezeway"
So, of course I race home at a whopping 15 miles per hour in traffic imagining the worst scenarios along the way (suffering a few minor heart attacks). My skimmer had gone bonkers and I didn't have the tube from the collection cup secured properly, but everything was alive and well.

About two months ago, when I first moved the tank to my apartment I had a moment like that.

So the tank had been up and running for about a week, and I was performing a water change. I noticed a bit of uneaten food on the sand bed and when I went to suck it up I accidentally sucked up an empty snail shell. The shell was about 3/4 down the hose when it stuck into place. The shell reduced the flow going into the bucket and allowed me more time to suck some of the algae off the rock (back in the dark days of my tank) so I just kept it in there for the next couple of water changes. About 3 water changes later, and I still have the shell in the hose. I start my siphon and get hit with this crazy sneezing fit that takes my eyes off the tank. Suddenly, I feel this sudden thud and think to myself about that Finding Nemo scene when Nemo gets stuck in the filter and I start to smile a bit. I look into the tube to see what it was, and low and behold it's my male clown stuck in the hose. I break the siphon and the fish is in a dry hose, I grab a knife and cut open the hose. At this point, I have a clown that's stuck in the hose so I gently blow him out of the hose into the bucket and put him in a breeder box in my display. He was breathing heavy for the night but the next morning he was back to himself. Seriously the craziest reefing moment I've ever had.

Cory, that's why I built this timer. It turns the pumps off for a set number of minutes, and then automagically turns them back on again:

Yeah, I used to love "ginormous", but everyone uses it. Still love "rocket surgery".

Embiggen!!!Yeah, Bill, the last time this happened, I told myself I needed to stop by HD for the timer and radio shack for the relay.
