Bayer Advanced Insect Killer - I'm impressed

I recently picked up an acro frag that had redbugs on it. Naturally, it went into quarantine until I could get it treated. I decided to give the Bayer Advanced complete insect killer a try, since I had no Interceptor at the house and wanted the bugs GONE. Did a bit of research and came to the consensus that the effective dose covered a pretty wide range, and the chance of nuking the frag appeared to be pretty slim. So, I mixed 5ml of Bayer with 2c of tank water and dropped the frag in. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then did two clean saltwater rinses before returning it to the tank. As of this morning, there are no bugs on the frag anywhere. Not only did it knock the redbugs off, the frag is really happy this morning with all the polyps fully extended. I went ahead and dipped the other acro frags that were in qt with it, just in case some of the little buggers had made their way over onto them. Everyone responded positively to the dip, and they all have excellent PE this morning and I see no loss of color or tissue recession.

Oh yea, the original frag that I dipped........when I inspected the dip container I found a gazillion little redbugs, all dead in the bottom of the cup.

Conclusion, for me at least, this stuff works, and works well. I have some frags that I am willing to chance, so I am going to see how lps, zoas, and softies react to this dip. One thing I have been told, palythoa grandis is the only polyp known that does not tolerate the Bayer, so I won't be trying that one.

A word of caution. You must rinse the frags very well before returning them to the tank. This stuff is highly toxic to crustaceans or anything else with a developed nervous system. I did two clean saltwater rinses and have seen no adverse effects on the inhabitants.

Use at your own risk, but I will now be adding this to my dip regimen for all incoming sps, and maybe all other frags depending on how my experiment goes.

I saw your write up, that's what inspired me to try it.

I like it, and I am adding it to my arsenal of dips. H202, CoralRx, Lugols, and now bug killer. Hey, if it works...........

I also dipped a Garf Bonsai that I have had for a long time. Never found anything on it, and nothing I could see came off during the dip, but the polyps are out today for the first time in weeks. Same result with a monti that was really acting puny. I've had it in qt because I suspected something was wrong with it. No pests came off that I could see (water is milky with the dip), but this morning it has all polyps out and is already looking much better.

yea, mine got some pretty harsh dips and i didn't lose any... they all looked better almost immediately
