If you decide to do a search, ping posted about this several times and included a Photo. The one he recommended was a cheap bulb from Lowe's or Home Depot. Here are the details:

I used this bulb from Walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/GE-Energy-...-Bulb/15040853
With this clip on light (found this at Walmart for $15 but I couldn't find a link online) http://www.lowes.com/pd_203213-1373-...acetInfo=4 - 5
I change my light once a year and the clip on when I get tired of looking at it. Its metal so it doesn't like salt water too much but I went 3 years and just replaced it because it was rusting in a few places. The light is rated for 4 years and at $20-$30 a year, it beats the T5 compact light solutions out there. I will post a pic of my refug soon. I am going to have to farm my chaeto soon.

I used to use the 90 watt bulb, fixing to go back to it. I've been using an energy efficient bulb for the last year and my results are dismal. I still have growth, but not the rampant growth that I had with the 90 watt.

The bulb I use is an energy efficient bulb for floodlights, with a spiral type bulb inside. Try it for a few weeks, I notice a big growth difference after one week with it on mine. I like the fact that i won't burn my hand if it brush up against it and it reduces my heat exchange into my tank. To date, I don't have a chiller on my tank and i am trying to keep it that way. It does get warn after about 20 secs of constant touch.

That's the one I have. On a reverse cycle. My water temp drops to around 76 at night. I could use a little heat.![]()

I am running a LED screw in bulb from Lowes on a cheap clip on fixture. No problems so far.

I use the same clip-on fixture from Lowes with a 60w Sylvania Spot-Gro plant grow light pointed at the side of my fuge rather than the top.

I saw the clip-on in the hardware section at Walmart for $7 for the small and $14 for the large. I am using the small one now.
