    Default water cloudy

been having problem with tang having fuzz on tail and color not looking perfect. checked water parameters and ammonia, nitrate, and nitrate showed zero. ph was between 7.8 and 8.0. i used seachem buffer to fix ph. now my skimmer had a leak and was off for about two days. i added some carbon and now my water is a bit cloudy. i've noticed green algae in sump and glass of tank. i'm guessing my phosphate levels must be up because my other parameters show zero. i don't have any coral in tank. i read that too much carbon can leak phosphates. i'm wondering if now that my skimmer is back on if it will pull out the phosphates or do i need to buy some of that phosban. any quick suggestions will help. fish stores close at 7. my skimmer is now putting out alot of foam so i'm assuming it's working. thanks.

how long has tank been set up? newly added carbon will not
leak phosphates till its old and exhausted. are you running anything else for filtration besides skimmer, like bio pellets? I would do a water change.

I had something like that where I placed the carbon bag directly in my drain and the flow was too strong and the carbon kinda disintegrated! It Caused my tank to look very clowdy... I did this because like you, I had no skimmer for 2-3 days. When I placed the new skimmer in, it started to pull out all the carbon dust and another thing it help a lot was to place a filter sock right under the drain....! Good luck!

i have the skimmer on now and added some polyfiber pad to try and absorb any particles that may be from carbon. skimmer is pulling out some nice foam. as far as the tang it is starting to swim out from the rock but not active as it usually is. but it is not hiding any more. what concerns me is it is still breathing rapidly. none of the other fish are breathing like that. i'm also noticing one eye cloudy on my brown tang still. no spots or scratching on rocks so I don't think it is ick. i bought some melafix and may treat the yellow tang tomorrow it it doesnt start to eat. it's been about 4-5 days since I've seen it eat. it is usually a voracious eater at anything i put in tank. both tangs have stopped eating the dry seaweed altogether which isn't usual for them. i hope the brown tang continues to eat. what else do you think is going on in my tank.

so what kind of cloudy is it? particle cloudy? or milky cloudy? and how much buffer did you use?
the buffer could be the cause of the cloudiness

i used about 7 teaspoons of marine buffer from seachem. if it was the buffer how long will it take to clear up.
